Cozy Morning Routine for Autumn
Crisp air and shorter days call for a perfect cozy fall morning routine.
Whether you need slower mornings or want to be more productive, this fall morning routine will help you start your morning right and set a positive tone for the rest of the day.
As the fall season sets in, it can be a real struggle to drag yourself out of that cozy bed.
Fall is my favorite season, but those cold and dark mornings are not very inviting.
However, a fall morning routine will have you leaping out of bed ready to start your day, no matter how miserable the weather looks outside.
So are you ready to make the most out of your fall mornings?
Well, let’s get to it!

Create a Fall Evening Routine
The perfect morning routine starts the night before. So before you plan out your morning routine for fall, create one for your evening.
Create your fall evening routine to work with your morning routine. In fact, all of your routines should support and flow into each other. That means adding tasks to your evening routine to help your mornings run smoother.
For instance, if your goal is to exercise in the morning, your evening routine may include laying out your workout clothes or checking the weather if you plan to exercise outside.
So instead of rummaging through drawers to find exercise clothes or clicking through YouTube videos to find the perfect workout, you’ll already have everything ready when you wake up.
The last thing you want is to start your morning with too many tasks and very little time.
If you fill your morning with a bunch of mundane tasks, you’ll exert too much mental energy and spend more time prepping for the very thing you want to accomplish.
You can also create a bedtime routine alongside your evening routine to break up your end-of-the-day tasks.
Here’s an example of a simple fall evening routine:
Tidy Up: Spend 15 minutes tidying up your spaces. For example, clear off the kitchen counter, clean your desk, or straighten your living room.
Prepare for Tomorrow: Take some time to plan your day and complete tasks to make your mornings simpler. These tasks include packing your lunch, picking out tomorrow’s outfit, or making your daily to-do list.
Relaxation Time: Spend some time unwinding before bed, like lighting a candle, reading a book, or bathing.
Bedtime: Set a sleep time so you can get up well-rested and ready to tackle the day. Set your alarm clock, and whatever you do, don’t hit the snooze button.
Make a Fall Drink
Nothing quite says fall like a warm drink.
And trust me, when you have your favorite fall drink to look forward to, it makes waking up during the colder months a little easier.
Bonus Tip: Set up your coffee maker or add water to your tea kettle the night before, so all you have to do in the morning is press start
I am a creature of habit and will drink a cup of tea or coffee every morning, so part of my fall morning routine is to try a few new drinks throughout the season.
Pumpkin spice latte, anyone?
If you’re like me, I challenge you to shake up your morning routine and add three new drinks to your rotation.
I love to use Pinterest to find new recipes and highly recommend it.
You can create a Pinterest Board, name it “Cozy Fall Drinks” or something along those lines, and pin recipes you want to try.
Enjoy Some Quiet Time
Quiet time is hands down my favorite part of my fall morning routine.
I can’t handle jumping out of bed and straight into my day, especially with darker and colder mornings.
I much prefer to ease into it.
So if you’re not the get-up-and-go type of person and need to ease into your mornings, dedicate some time in the mornings to enjoy some quiet time.
You can use that time to practice your morning affirmations, journal, meditate, or just sit and enjoy the present moment.
One of my favorite quiet time activities for fall is to snuggle under a cozy blanket and read a few pages of a book or scriptures.
And there’s no need to overthink your quiet time—make it as short or long as you’d like or what time allows.
So if you only have ten minutes in the morning, that’s fine. The goal is to spend time with your own thoughts or do something that enriches your mind and nourishes your soul.
However, I recommend not going on social media or checking your phone first thing in the morning. Not only will it use up some of your mental energy, but it can also set a negative tone before you even start your day.
Eat a Cozy Breakfast
You can’t have a cozy fall morning routine without a good breakfast.
After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
You can feel the change in the air as summer turns to fall. The trees shed their leaves, birds fly south, and animals stock up for winter.
And we’re no exception.
Like the rest of nature, the season invites us to change our routine, slow down, and savor the coziness of fall.
Nothing evokes cozy quite like a warm and hearty meal.
And what better way to welcome the season than with a cozy breakfast?
You can keep your breakfast simple and choose a classical meal, like steel-cut oats with a sprinkle of cinnamon and apple slices.
Or mix things up with spiced pumpkin French toast smothered in maple syrup. And if you prefer savory, try something like a Butternut Squash Sausage Frittata.
If you struggle with finding recipes, Pinterest is always my go-to.
Get Fresh Air
The fresh autumn air is a must for your cozy fall morning routine.
I know it’s tempting to stay in bed and sleep the morning away. However, the crisp fall air does wonders for your overall health.
And it will surely wake you up.
I’ll typically take a 15-minute walk around my neighborhood, or if I have more time on the weekend, I’ll go for a longer walk at a nearby park.
Getting fresh air in the morning energizes me and motivates me to tackle my day.
And there’s something about the sound of crunchy leaves under my feet that gives me all the cozy feels.
So, if you’re feeling a bit sluggish in the mornings, head out for a brisk walk, or if you want more of a challenge, go for a long run.
I guarantee it’ll boost your energy levels and put you in the right frame of mind to take on your day.
And if you don’t have enough time to walk, step outside for a few minutes and breath in some of that fall air.
Get Ready for the Day
The next step of your cozy fall morning routine is to get ready for the day.
Getting ready will look different for everyone, but the goal is to bring comfort and coziness into the rest of your morning routine.
For instance, some may opt for a relaxing shower, while others prefer to light a fall candle and take a quick bath.
Or you may listen to music or a guided meditation, and someone else will tune into a Podcast episode or get ready in silence.
The key is to take your time and enjoy the process of getting ready for the day.
And don’t forget about your wardrobe.
It’s super easy to throw on some sweatpants or stay in your pajamas, especially if you work from home.
However, when you get dressed, it can actually boost your mood.
So, choose something comfortable to make you feel cozy and put together.
Think cozy sweaters, comfy jeans, sweater dresses, tights, warm socks, and ankle booties.
Bonus Tip: Replace your summer wardrobe with your fall outfits for easier access
Start Your Day
The last step in your cozy morning routine is to start your day.
Up to this point, you’ve nourished your body, mind, and soul, so now it’s time to get to work.
I love to carry over my cozy fall morning routine vibes into the rest of my day.
I am most productive during the early morning hours, so I typically use this time to complete my most important tasks.
And since I work from home, I’ll light a candle or add a few drops of fall-inspired essential oils to my diffuser to fill my space with the coziness of fall.
I also enjoy this fall lofi playlist to help me stay focused on my work.
And if you work in the office, you can bring the warmth and coziness of your fall morning routine with you.
- Bring a fall-themed mug for your morning coffee
- Change your brain dump journal to a fall-themed one
- Change your desktop wallpaper to a fall-inspired image
- Keep a cozy blanket handy at your desk for comfort
And just like that, you’re ready to have a productive day while still enjoying the coziness of fall.
Final Note on Cozy Fall Morning Routine
And there you have it!
These are a few ideas to help you make the most of your cozy morning routine this fall.
There’s no need to do these in any particular order.
For instance, you can start your morning with a cozy breakfast, head out for some fresh air, and come back inside to enjoy your quiet time.
And feel free to remove an idea that doesn’t work for you and add what you need.
The important thing is that you find a routine that works for you and helps you make the most out of your fall mornings.
So, go ahead and get creative with your new morning routine and enjoy the season.
